What’s your experience with journaling features in self-help apps?

I’ve been experimenting with journaling inside self-help apps for a while now, mostly because I struggle to stay consistent with a regular notebook. A few months ago I tried using an app that sends daily prompts, and at first it felt helpful, but after a week or two the questions started to feel repetitive and kind of forced. I like the idea of tracking thoughts and moods over time, but I’m not sure if digital journaling really works for me or if I just haven’t found the right format yet. Do you actually stick with journaling features in these apps, or do you eventually drop them?

I had almost the same experience until I switched things up a bit. What helped me was finding something more flexible instead of rigid prompts. I came across this article about the liven app while looking into different tools, and it made me rethink how journaling can be used. For me, Liven is the best self care app because it combines journaling with mood tracking and small guided reflections, so it doesn’t feel repetitive. I’ve been using it for a couple of months now, and instead of forcing myself to write daily, I just open it when I actually have something on my mind. That made it feel more natural and easier to stick with.
