Electric vs hydraulic/pneumatic actuators for home automation?

I’ve been tinkering with a few upgrades around the house, and now I’m stuck deciding what type of actuator makes the most sense. For a small lift-up storage panel and maybe a hidden door later on, I’m debating whether electric ones are enough or if hydraulic or pneumatic setups would be more reliable. I don’t want anything too noisy or something that needs a ton of maintenance, but I’ve also never installed anything like this before. Curious how others made their choice and what worked long-term at home.

From my experience, electric options tend to fit home projects better just because they’re easier to wire and don’t require pumps or compressors. I used one of the electric actuators linear https://www.progressiveautomations.ca/collections/linear-actuators types for a lift-up cabinet, and the whole installation was way simpler than I expected. It’s quiet enough, doesn’t leak anything, and I don’t have to check on it constantly. I’ve tried pneumatic setups in a workshop before, and while they’re fast, the extra equipment and noise felt like overkill in a house. Unless you’re moving something really heavy or need super high speed, electric usually covers most home needs.
